    Uniofyorkspace.net is merging with yorkspace.net

The University of York has a 'yorkspace.net' forwarding-only email service in addition to the full email service 'uniofyorkspace.net' provided here.
Following feedback from alumni, particularly about wanting a shorter email address, we are begining the process of merging the two together.

As posted yesterday, registration for uniofyorkspace.net addresses has been disabled in preparation for this upgrade. Registration will be re-enabled after the merge.

What does this mean for uniofyorkspace.net users?

You will not need to change anything.
You will retain all the uniofyorkspace.net email address(es) you currently have with the same username/passwords as before.
You will, however, also gain an alias of 'username@yorkspace.net' on your account, where username@uniofyorkspace.net is your current email address.
Whilst the intention is to keep the uniofyorkspace.net email addresses working, the website of the service itself will change to 'http://email.yorkspace.net'.

What does this mean for yorkspace.net users?

Currently you have an email address that forwards to somewhere else. What happens upon merging depends whether you also have an existing uniofyorkspace.net address.

    - If you have both yorkspace.net and uniofyorkspace.net accounts:
The accounts will be merged and set to however you currently have your uniofyorkspace.net account:
     - If this account forwards email, we will continue to forward email.
     - If you are storing email in your uniofyorkspace.net account (ie, not forwarding it anywhere), your yorkspace.net email will be delivered into your current Inbox.
You will need to use your uniofyorkspace.net password to log in in the future.

    - If you only have a yorkspace.net account:
Your email forwarding will continue to work but you will be sent a NEW, randomised password to your forwarding account.
You will now have an alumni email account that has been upgraded to be able to fully send/receive email via our webmail interface and any IMAP/POP3 compatible mail client, such as Outlook or your mobile phone. If you log in and disable forwarding you will be able to use this upgraded account to send and receive email.

If you have any further questions please contact the helpdesk.
